As I’m writing Book 6 of the Curse of the Lost Isle medieval fantasy series, tiled BELOVED CRUSADER. The backdrop, the first Knights’ Crusade of 1096, is full of strange twists, and I stumble upon little known legends in my research every day. So many supernatural events sprinkled this particular expedition, I sometimes wonder if the reality isn’t too strange to be believable. Unlike reality, fiction has to make sense.
The people of the time called these unexplained events miracles. A few could be explained by modern science, others are weird coincidences. All of these happenstances bring more fodder to this series, based upon immortal ladies imbued with magical gifts. This time, my immortal heroine is Palatina, a sister of Melusine the Fae. She spent two centuries in a cave, guarding a treasure, and she is learned and calm by nature… except when it comes to the hero.
Earlier, I posted about the Naga, who is now my principal villain in this story. My hero is the handsome Lord Pierre de Belfort, a devout Christian with a troubled past. Palatina, of course keeps a deadly secret that could get her burned at the stake in such a strictly Christian world. But love is stronger than anything, and these two will defy the odds and find their happily ever after.
Since this will be Palatina’s first and only book, this novel will pretty much stand alone. It might be a little longer, but it will definitely be memorable. BELOVED CRUSADER will be released from Books We Love Ltd in April 2015.
